About Bakery Boxes
Bakery products are fragile in a way that other food is not. A cake that shifts sideways is damaged, not just untidy, and there is no way to put it right at the other end.
So bakery packaging is mostly about restraint of movement. The box has to be close enough around the product to stop it sliding, rigid enough that the lid does not press down on decoration, and often designed to be carried flat by a customer who will put it on a car seat.
A window is common here because bakery products are their own best advertisement, and because being able to see the contents means the box does not need to be opened to check them.

Frequently asked questions
Should a cake box have a window?
It depends on where it is sold. In a shop where the customer has already seen the cake, a window adds cost for little benefit. For delivery, online orders or gifting it is genuinely useful, because the product can be seen without opening the box.
How much clearance should there be above a cake?
Enough for the tallest decoration plus a margin, so nothing touches the lid when the box is carried at a slight angle. Send the decorated height rather than the cake height.
Is the board suitable for direct food contact?
Board and coating for food contact are specified per project rather than assumed. Tell us whether the product touches the board directly and we will confirm the appropriate material before you order.
Can you make boxes for tall or tiered cakes?
Yes. Tall boxes need extra rigidity because the taller the panel, the more it can bow. We would specify a heavier board and sample it loaded.
