About Auto Lock Bottom Box
An auto lock bottom carton — also called a crash lock base — has its base panels pre-glued at the factory in an interlocking pattern. When the flat carton is squared up, the base folds itself into a locked floor in one motion. There is nothing to tuck and nothing to tape.
Two benefits follow. Packing is faster, because the slowest part of erecting a tuck carton is closing the base. And the base is considerably stronger, because the panels interlock and support each other rather than relying on a friction tuck.
Anything with real weight in it — a glass bottle, a jar, a set of items — is a candidate for this construction.

Board thickness is specified against the actual weight being carried rather than the carton size alone. Top closure can be a straight or reverse tuck, or a full flap.
If you know the filled weight of the carton, include it with your enquiry — it is the single most useful number for specifying this construction correctly.

Produced at our Ajman facility
Printed, finished and die cut, then glued in two operations: the side seam and the base lock pattern. The base glue pattern is the more exacting of the two, because the panels have to release cleanly and lock square when the carton is squared up.

Frequently asked questions
Does an auto lock bottom carton still ship flat?
Yes. The base is glued but not formed, so the carton lies flat until it is squared up. Storage and freight volume are the same as any other folding carton.
How much weight can it hold?
That depends on board thickness and carton dimensions rather than the base style alone, but for any given board an auto lock base carries considerably more than a tucked base. Tell us the filled weight and we will specify the board to suit.
Is it more expensive than a tuck end carton?
Slightly, because of the additional glue operation. Where products have weight, the reduction in packing time and in damaged units usually outweighs the difference.
What closes the top?
Usually a straight or reverse tuck. Where the top also needs to be secure, a full flap top closed with a label or tape seal is an option.
