The construction

A rigid box is built rather than folded. A greyboard shell is cut, grooved and formed, then wrapped in a printed or specialty paper, which is why it holds its shape out of the box and why it feels substantially heavier than a folding carton of the same size.

That construction is what makes rigid the default for perfume, jewellery, watches, cosmetics and high-value gifting. It also makes it the most specification-sensitive packaging we produce: board thickness, wrap material, insert type and closure all move independently, and each one changes both the feel and the cost.

We manufacture rigid boxes at our Ajman facility — cutting, grooving, wrapping, gluing and hand assembly are all done here, alongside the printing and finishing of the wrap.

Types of rigid boxes

Magnetic closure boxes

A hinged lid held shut by concealed magnets. The most common choice where the opening itself is part of the product experience.

Lid and base boxes

A separate lid lifting off a base. The classic two-piece construction, and usually the most economical rigid format.

Drawer boxes

A sleeve with an inner tray that slides out. Useful where the product should be revealed gradually rather than all at once.

Collapsible boxes

Rigid when assembled, flat when not. Chosen where storage and shipping volume matter as much as presentation.

Shoulder neck boxes

An inner collar between base and lid, giving a stepped reveal and a noticeably tighter close.

Luxury gift boxes

Rigid construction specified around gifting rather than a fixed format — ribbon, insert and wrap chosen per project.

Manufacturing

Made at our Ajman facility

Rigid work is the most hand-involved packaging we make. Greyboard is cut to the dieline and grooved so it folds square, the printed wrap is laminated and finished, and the two are brought together on the assembly line. Magnets, ribbon and inserts are fitted at the same stage.

Because wrapping and assembly happen on our own floor rather than at a subcontractor, a wrap that is not sitting correctly or a magnet that is not seating cleanly is caught and corrected during the run.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a rigid box and a folding carton?

A rigid box is made from thick greyboard that is cut, grooved and wrapped, so it arrives already formed and keeps its shape permanently. A folding carton is printed on thinner board, die cut and creased, and ships flat to be erected when needed. Rigid feels heavier and more substantial; folding cartons cost less and take far less storage space.

Can you make rigid boxes in any size?

Yes — rigid boxes are made to your dimensions rather than pulled from stock sizes. Send us the product being packed, or the internal dimensions you need, and we will work out the board and wrap sizes from there.

What is the best finish for a rigid box?

It depends what you want the box to communicate. Soft-touch lamination gives a matte, velvety surface that reads as premium and hides fingerprints better than gloss. Foil stamping and embossing add contrast against a matte wrap. Spot UV works best over matte, where the difference in sheen does the work.

Do rigid boxes come with inserts?

They can. Paperboard inserts are the most common and the most economical, foam inserts suit heavier or more fragile items, and custom inserts are made where the product shape needs a specific cradle. Tell us what is going inside and we will recommend the option that protects it without over-engineering the box.
